Closing Ceremony of The 1st Chung Ling High School International Camp

And after 7 days in Penang the journey of all the participants in the camp had finally came to an end. I was told that on the night before Friday they all slept at 5Am and woke at 8!!I am sure they will all be like pretty much like this guy over here when they enter the hall

That was how hard it was for them to even go to sleep.I am no longer the Emcee for the closing ceremony and I had the opportunity to do what I like! Which was snapping pictures!! Say cheese people!

We were all in the hall way before the VIPs came so we were entertained by our very own Gallus Gallus!

As usual nothing in malaysia starts on time lol finally the VIPs were all lead into the hall led by our very own Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee ka Siong!

We were all really honoured! He came all the way from KL just to attend this 2 hour event!Chung Ling memang ho liao!! throughout my 5 years in Chung Ling I have seen Datuk Ong Kah Ting which was our previous Education Minister and now Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong!

Well thats the end of the camp. Some of them even cried. I guess I know how they felt but life goes on. Lucky for us we have facebook these days so it isn’t really that hard to communicate with each other but yet again it was a very good experience for the participants as everyone was exposed to many different cultures! but like the girl from Singapore said, although we are different but we still practise the same thing, which was people in Singapore also did THE CHUNG LING TRADITION to the guys on their birthdays!!

My Last 3 Chung Ling School Sports Day

Sadly I only managed to participate in it for 3 years. that was when i was first crowned the javelin gold medalist when i was 15 but sadly every single year I had the same result, which was not being able to even get a bronze. The peeps from Chung Ling Private are to good at it. I mean I only touch that bloody stick one a year while the kids next door train with it practically one every 2 days! So when people say practise makes perfect, they really do mean it.Before went to the field someone took my camera and took a picture of this YongSui kia!

The day was very hott with the blazing sun!!

The god of javelin was already on earth to participate in this SURE LOSE event!@

He is now facing the sun! recieving all the solar energy he could!! slowly but surely his javelin will be filled with the power of the sun!!!

Chung Ling High School’s First Ever International Camp Opening Ceremony

3 days before the event I recieved one of the most breath taking message of all time. I was personally requested by my school’s Headmaster for me to be the emcee for this prestigious opening ceremony. It was the best moment of my time in Chung Ling.

Its the first time I actually felt that I was good at something and i can really help out my beloved Chung Ling High School!After days of rehearsals, the day finally came. The Opening Ceremony of Chung Ling High School’s First Ever International Camp!

I was partnered with Nan Chai

He is the best student for the Chinese language for this 21st century in Chung Ling history! that was what I heard from my fellow Chinese debaters but after partnering with him, that really is a fact!I was dressed in a traditional Chinese costume

Its actually my first time wearing something like this and I recieved comments taht I look like a pak Cik! alamk!!!!As you know as the emcee i can’t really walk about and take pictures unless its on stage so I had a helper that day!! woots!

Our ex Chief Minister was invited to officiate the event but sadly he couldn’t make it so his secretary came .Cheeyi’s dad HAHA Luckily for me I didn’t really make any mistakes in my speech. Its the first time I am hosting an event with VIPS! The previous events were like Iu Day and others which weren’t formal at all and i could do any mistake I want and treat it like a joke!

The song is actually an original soundtrack composed and written by our very own students. This shows how independent Chung Ling can be! After everything it was finally over. I did receive some praises at the end of the day which really made my day! Well of course I didn’t lose the opportunity to take pictures with International Kids! If I didn’t take pictures with them means I am not Chien Ming d ok! lol

After the ceremony I was expected to head home but since they were going to places where I never had a chance to go to in school so might as well just follow them! This is the famous obervatory thingy

OMG!! I am NS-ed!(Selected For National Service)

Today, 15th July 2010, its one of the days where you can see many people bringing phones to school not for smsing with their girl friends but to check whether are they selected for the National Service or also known as PLKN(Projeck Latihan Khidmat Negara). and sadly i am NS-ed!!! Urghh I always thought getting yourself in more Kokurikulum activities can get you out of this but sadly the answer is ….NO! Everyone in school today was discussing about it the entire day and last year 50% of the students in Chung Ling were selected so its a very scary moment for us all.There are 2 ways to know whether you are selected or not, Number 1 is by SMS and the other method is by logging onto the official site at www.khidmatnegara.gov.my. Well for those of you are really really erm blur about this issue here’s a short explanation about PLKN

The National Service Training Programme, or Program Latihan Khidmat Negara (PLKN), is Malaysia‘s national service program. The conscripts are 17-year-old youths that are selectively drafted. The program was also initially planned as a 2-year program, which was later reduced to a year, and then six months, and to its present three-month length. The rationale for National Service was to bond the youth of Malaysia together and create a Malaysian nation, as the problem of racial polarization was found to pervade educational institutions in Malaysia.

Selection of conscripts

The government announced that youths were randomly selected through a computerized process Conscripts were informed of their participation in the program by mail at the address listed on their identification card. They are also able to check their status on the program’s website, or by SMS.Deserters and draft dodgers are subject to punishment of a fine of up to but not exceeding RM 3000, and/or up to six months of jail.

It all sounds awesome and all but actually I don’t really feel like going. I mean 3 months is wasted! And I am not the type that likes this type of stuff. I mean if its like 3 weeks I would be ok with it but 3 months!!! thats just to much! Well for those who are gonna find ways to bypass the system like what I am trying to do, here are some criterias that can get you out of all these BULL

Insanity
Physically disabled
Currently being held under preventive detention (such as the Internal Security Act)
Undergoing drug rehabilitation
Detained by the Children’s Act of 2001 (Act 612)
Fatal disease or condition, as confirmed by a medical officer.
Contagious disease, as confirmed by a medical officer.
Full-time member or full-time trainee of the Malaysian Armed Forces, Royal Malaysian Police, Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency or Prisons Department of Malaysia.
Pregnant women

As youc an see, to bypass it you have to really hurt yourself or be a WOMAN! and you must have a “fake baby ” Another way is also getting into ISA which is doing something crazy like screwing the goverment openly which is something you are not advised to do.

Ok and for those who still have the question of what should we do there for 3 bloody months? here are the answers!! There are actually 4 official modules in the camp, which are

Physical Module (Fizikal) – Marching (Kawat), hand to hand combat (Tempur Tanpa Senjata, largely similar to taekwondo), Colt M16 usage^[5], obstacle courses (Kembara Halangan), abseilling (Tali Tinggi), Flying Fox, canoeing (Kayak), camping (“Wirajaya”) (During Wirajaya, trainees will be also given mock missions such as:Search and rescue, night patrols, perimeter Guard, first aid and at night trainees have to guard their company flag from being stolen by instructors of other companies who would infiltrate their opponent companies’ bases) Navigation (Navigasi), survival training and first aid training.
Nation Building Module (Kenegaraan) – Classroom based. Nation’s history, sovereignty and dignity, Malaysia and international affairs, Defence and National Security and Citizen’s responsibility to the nation, and loyalty towards the current government, Barisan Nasional. The classes are based on group based training (Latihan Dalam Kumpulan).
Character Building Module (Pembinaan Karakter) – Classroom based. It comprises 2 modules. The first one, Module A speaks about Bringing Out The Best In Me while the second module, Module B, relates to Bringing Out The Best In Others. This component is experential based and relies on games and activities as the means of teaching. It is about instilling good values and Self-confidence, leadership and self-evaluation.
Community Service Module (Khidmat Komuniti) – Trainees are sent in groups to places in surrounding areas to give the trainees a chance to serve society. This is about building and restoring public amenities. It also teaches them environmental restoration and protection as well.

Activity wise, there are surely many fun and interesting things to do but sadly its 3 MONTHS! thats the problem!!!

Oh and theres another high side, participants are all given RM450 in allowance(RM150 per month) which is a good thing as you are also FED 6 TIMES A DAY and yet get paid for it!! BUt from what I heard the food isn’t nice at all. So depends la, if you love food you can gain weight there although there are so so many physical exercises but for those who are choosy like me, a lost in weight is guranteed!

And for the newcomers like me who did some research on the net, I found out about these cases and it seriously sends a chill down my spine. There were so many accidents and deaths in the camps and the next victim could be anyone of us

Here are the Dates and Years of the events

2009

Abdul Malik Ishak, 18, attached to Kem Guar Chenderai, Padang Besar, Perlis. Found dead in his bed on June 29, at Kem Guar Chenderai. He had not reported any problems on his self-reported health declaration form.

2008

* Too Hui Min, 18, passed away recently on the 7th of May 2008, three days after she started complaining of constipation. Her family is desperate to know why she wasn’t sent to the hospital earlier. As a result of this latest death bringing the total so far to 16, several DAP leaders are calling for the suspension or even the scrapping of the National Service programme.

* Afiq Zuhairi, 18, died on 16 April 2008, after a brief febrile illness. He was treated by camp paramedics several times before finally being transferred to hospital where he died in less than 24 hours

2007

* Teng Shian Shen, 18 attached to Pasir Panjang Camp in Port Dickson died two weeks after being asked to return home from her training at the Pasir Panjang due to breathing difficulty.

* Ili Ameera Azlan, 17, died on 18th January was attached to the Ayer Keroh, Melaka camp after suffering breathing difficulties . The parents were paid RM 35,000.

* 1 March 2007 Prema Elenchelian from Kajang, Selangor, attached to the Kisana Beach Resort Camp, Kelantan was found unconscious in a toilet at Jeram Linang (0230 hours). She was taken to the Tengku Anis Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Prema’s death brought to 12 the number of trainees who have died since the programme began in 2004.

* 3 September 2007, Mohd Rafi Ameer, 18, died at 10.30pm after having fever for 1 week. Rafi called his sister and telling her that he had fever and that his leg had been swollen for nearly a week after he fell during training.

2006

* Haziq Jaafar, 17 years old from Kota Tinggi died after a fight with another trainee at Kem Padang Hijau in Kluang, Johor.

2005

* Nurul Ashikin Karino, 17, died on 14th May at the Shan Sui, Tawau, Sabah camp. Karino Jalani (father of the deceased) claimed that he was not allowed to meet his daughter who fell and was injured as part of a training accident

* S. Theresa Pauline, 17, died on June 11th was attached to the Karisma Camp, Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan. She was admitted to the hospital on May 23rd after having fits. Her death was attributed to viral meningoencephaliti. Her father, S. Sarimuthu was paid RM 32,000 [9]

Major Incidents

2004

Rape, Merang Camp, Setiu, Terengganu, on 28 February. A female trainee, 17, was raped by Corporal Zuki Mohd, 30, in a Perodua Kancil in the Rhu Tapai agro-industrial estate in Setiu between 7.28pm and 9.10pm on February 28. Zuki Mohd had been employed as a physical module instructor at Merang Camp. The trial began on 14 December 2004 at the Terengganu Sessions Court, and ended on 20 December 2005. Zuki, a military personnel from Kampung Bari Besar, Setiu, was convicted of raping the girl by the Terengganu Sessions Court and was sentenced to 12 years’ jail and three strokes of the rotan. The female trainee later sued the trainer as well as the government for negligence.
Lost in jungle, Ovai Wawasan Camp, Papar, Sabah, on 21 February. Around 600 trainees and instructors were lost for almost 12 hours after following the wrong trail during what was meant to be an hour-long afternoon hiking trip. Except for kitchen staff, trainees who had gone to church that day, and several staff members who stayed behind to keep an eye on camp facilities, close to the entire 600+ member camp were involved in the hiking trip. After close to 12 hours, a full name count was finally issued at 2 am..

2005

Food poisoning, PDS Resort Camp, Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, on 16 May. 60 trainees and instructors at Pusat Latihan Khidmat Negara, Port Dickson Camp, Negeri Sembilan.

2007

Food poisoning, Sri Impian Camp, Sungai Bakap, Penang, on 30 December. Trainees suffered food poisoning due to food served on the first day of camp, 30 December.

Lost in jungle, Kem Lagenda Gunung Ledang, Jasin, Malacca, on 30 April. Twenty-three lost their way during a jungle trekking exercise at Asahan Forest Reserve. The instructor in charge of the group was subsequently dismissed with immediate effect for negligence.

2008

High fever, Kem Desaru Gerak Khas, Kota Tinggi, Johor, on 31 May. 58 trainees came down with vomiting and high fever on 31 May, and were admitted to Kota Tinggi Hospital. The incident began when trainees began to fall sick after returning to camp on 28 May, from the Wirajaya module (a two-day jungle trekking exercise).

Food poisoning, Kem Barracuda, Setiu Agro, Terengganu, on 29 May. 67 trainees developed stomachaches believed to be caused by due to food poisoning on 28 May, barely a week after nine trainees from the same camp suffered the same ailment. Fourteen trainees were warded in the Setiu Hospital, while 53 received outpatient treatment. Four food handlers at the camp also received outpatient treatments at the same hospital. The food was catered from outside, as the camp’s canteen had been closed after the May 23 incident when four of the trainees were warded for food poisoning.

Food poisoning, Kem Barracuda, Setiu Agro, Terrenganu, on 23 May. Nine trainees fell ill due to food poisoning, with four trainees being warded at Setiu Hospital. The camp’s canteen was subsequently closed down.

Outbreak of unknown fever, Kem PLKN Jiwa Murni, Semanggol, Perak, in late April. At least 10 trainees were warded at the Taiping Hospital, while 80 others were being treated at the camp, and all trainees were given blood tests, for an outbreak of an unidentified fever. The Kerian district health office placed the camp under quarantine. The quarantine was only discovered a few days after being initialized, when parents were turned away from picking up their children for a scheduled week-long break.

2009

A 18-year-old ethnic Chinese trainee was alleged to have been sexually assaulted by more than 20 unidentified men at Lake Chini Resort Camp, Lake Chini, Pahang, on 23 June while making a call from a phone booth on camp grounds at night. Accompanied by her father, the trainee lodged a police report and underwent a medical check-up the next day and did not subsequently return to camp. As of one week later, camp authorities were purportedly pressuring the trainee to return to training.

A racial brawl involving almost 100 trainees occurred in the canteen of Lake Chini Resort Camp, Lake Chini, Pahang, on 27 June following a misunderstanding arising from trainees “inadvertently [shoving] into each other” while rearranging chairs. Following this incident, 17 trainees were arrested by police and held at Pekan district police lock-up for two days before being released after meeting their parents.

Although its only a small number of cases but why put yourself in a situation where there is even a slight % of you being hurt? Isn’t better to be safe and sound at home ?

Of course the Programme has recieved some good comments to. Some say you have to experience it to know it but all those still won’t change my mind as I still feel PLKN is a waste of time. I guess I will just start my studies in January and try to delay it as long as possible.

11th July!!! Its a very very special day and NO! its not my birthday!! I mean if its my 18th birthday then I would be happy cause i can AHEM AHEM! just joking!! Well it was the final of THE FIFA WORLD CUP 2010!! But because in Malaysia we are about 7 hours after South Africa so the match was played at 2:30AM on the 12th and yes.. Its a Monday and a school day.I was plannign to go somewhere crowded to catch it but Jian Soong organised a small aprty for us kids in the neighbourhood and it was surely the right palce to be. Although the crowd there was a mere 15 people but still it was AWESOME! haha thnks Soong.

Alicia brought her face paint that day. She was already saying she nwated to put it on the semi final as she was affraid Spain might not make it and she won’t have the chance anymore but ahem! pro predictor here told her sure win eh! And who knew! really won!

The match was so bloody exciting I tell you . In under 20 minutes I think 5 yellow cards were already shown but we all already can predict as the referee was so famous in giving cards even while he is in the English Premier League. Holland were seriously rough.Those tackles could ruin one’s career and they were all very lucky just to get off with a yellow card. but somehow I felt the match was kinda fixed. thats just my opinion as why were there so many cahnces but yet not a single goal inside 90 minutes? It was all like 1 on 1 with the keeper! but yet still can’t go in. Well its not my problem as I did manage to win RM20 at the end of teh day!! I couldn’t find any kakis la so only can bet with friends i see.
After witnessing Spain win the world cup it was already close to 6AM, which was the time my bus would arrive to pick me up. As a famous pig among my friends I decided, well just to go home instead of changing into my school uniform, I changed into my pyjamas and went straight to bed and the next time I was light was about 2:30PM in the afternoon, which meant I slept for almost 9 hours WOOTS!!!

After all the performances of course there will be the prize giving ceremony. I mean who would work their arse off if there weren’t any rewards right/? Well of course there is always the couvenir.

Here are the pictures of the winners. Sadly there weren’t any first runner up or second runner up this year.I will try to update the winners ASAP. Forgotten who and who d lol

And the overall champion goes to Chung Ling Butterworth!!!!

Woots!! they were all so high man! lol all ran like wackos!

but i can understand their feeling as getting overall in Chung Ling is something very hard to achieve! We had 3 different winners for the past 3 consecutive years so all their hard work paid off!
And to the horror of everyone! An innocent life was killed that day. haih sadly to say all the dancing and stamping killed a very very innocent cochcroach!

Well the event was a success with about 700 participants and the feed backs were good just the food wasn’t that nice. Free dance was again always awesome and to youa ll who refer me as teh green shirt guy sorry la this year no green shirt d is WHITE! DR BABY! Welll the thing I regret most is not being so active in scouting. Its already to late , I am already form 5 and the farewell event has also passed, sadly I can’t tell people that i am a scout proudly in the future but i GURANTEE my brother will be a very very good scout! MARK MY WORDS!!

After the fancy dress competition the competition for the performances continued. And my word it just kept on coming and coming! there were at least 30 erformances that day!!

We also had our souvenir competition but I only managed to take 1 which I feel the most unique

The pyramid looked really awesome with the symbols and all but sadly they didn’t managed to win it. Up next on the list was a video presentation of all our senior troops

We even prepared a cake!! but sadly I never saw it after it was cut. I guess some1 ate the whole thing up
